Liposuction, sometimes referred to as lipoplasty ("fat modeling"), liposculpture suction lipectomy or simply lipo ("suction-assisted fat removal") is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from different sites on the body. Dr. Frank Isik is a board certified plastic surgeon who has practiced Seattle liposuction surgery for more than a decade. Dr. Isik is also honored as a top doctor by Seattle Magazine and Seattle Metropolitan Magazine.
Recognition

Liposuction can remove excess fat in your neck, abdomen (belly), thighs, buttocks or other body areas. Liposuction surgery removes excess fat that is difficult to get rid of with dieting and exercise. However, it is designed to remove localized areas of fat with small and inconspicuous incisions (scars).

Liposuction is a commonly performed plastic surgery procedure. However, liposuction alone will not remove excess skin. In cases where there is excess skin, it can be combined with body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck surgery, thigh lift, arm lift, and facelift to remove excess fat and skin.

Seattle Liposuction is safely performed as outpatient surgery, which means you go home the same day of your surgery. Liposuction involves creating small incisions each ~ 1/4" long. While you are asleep (monitored IV sedation), anesthetic fluid is placed into the fatty layer to provide long-lasting anesthesia. During liposuction, a probe is inserted through these small skin incisions and the fat is gently removed.

Some patients have fat located under the chin and neck but do not need a facelift. Neck liposuction offers a huge improvement to your neck profile through inconspicuous scars under the chin.

After Surgery Care

After liposuction, compressive garments are worn for 6 weeks afterwards to assure that the swelling is kept to a minimum and that the improved form and contour is maintained during the healing process. Pain after liposuction is well tolerated. Most patients do not need pain medicines for more than a few days. Return to work or school after one week of recovery is common.

A Word of Caution

The ideal candidate for this outpatient operation is someone who has localized areas of fat which have not responded well to dieting and exercise. This operation is not recommended for patients who have a very large volume of fat distributed everywhere. Patients who are morbidly obese (with a BMI greater than 35) should consider other means to lose as much of the excess weight as possible first. After your weight loss has stabilized, you will be a better candidate for the procedure.
