Ear Reshaping Surgery

Dr. Frank Isik
Plastic Surgeon
Seattle, Washington

Ear pinning surgery, or otoplasty, is performed to re-position prominent ears closer to the head and/or reduce the size of large ears. This surgery can be performed on children or in adults. Ear pinning surgery does not impact your hearing.

Ear shaping surgery usually takes about two hours, although the correction of complex deformities may take longer. The operation requires a small incision in the back of the ear . The ear cartilage is sculpted and reshaped back towards your head. Non-removable stitches are used to permanently maintain the new look. The scar will be inconspicuous and fade with time. Pain after ear surgery is usually very mild and well tolerated.

Your head will be wrapped in a bandage immediately following surgery which will be removed in a few days. You will wear a headband afterwards to help maintain the ears in their new position during the healing process.
