Breast Reshaping and Lift

Seattle and Bellevue Washington

Over time, pregnancy, nursing, changes in weight and gravity may take their toll on your figure. As your skin loses elasticity, your breasts may lose their original shape and firmness and begin to descend, or droop. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a breast plastic surgery procedure that will correct the nipple position and reshape your breasts to provide a more youthful, enhanced form.

A breast lift can also reduce the size of the pigmented area (areola) around your nipple. If your breasts are small or have lost fullness, which is common after breast feeding or weight loss, a saline or silicone breast implant can also be inserted at the same time as the breast lift to enhance the shape and enlarge the breast size. The breast enlargement can be very modest or dramatic, depending on your goals and current anatomy.

Many women seek a breast lift because pregnancy and nursing have changed their breast shape. However, if you're planning to have more children, it is often a good idea to postpone your breast lift surgery. The breast lift may impair your ability to breast feed with future pregnancies. Also, if you have had weight loss and still planning on losing more weight, then it is best to stabilize at your final weight before having a breast lift.

The operative technique used by Dr. Isik is a short-scar vertical mastopexy. Unlike anchor-shaped incisions which leave long scars under the breast, the vertical technique minimizes the amount of scars on your breast and provides a much more natural, youthful breast form that is longer-lasting. The incision goes around the areola (the pigmented portion around your nipple) and extends down towards the bottom of your breast. The vertical mastopexy method does not leave scars under your breasts and provides a more projecting youthful shape than the anchor shaped scar methods.

Breast lift surgery is performed as outpatient surgery, which means you go home the same day of your surgery. Most patients are able to resume non-strenuous work in less than 1 week and resume full physical activities after 3 weeks. All patients need to have a recent mammogram (breast x-ray) before the surgery. Patients that are interested in breast feeding may wish to postpone breast surgery until future pregnancies and breast feeding is completed. Due to the high post-operative complication rates in patients who are smoking or are very obese, pre-operative smoking cessation for 6 weeks or dieting maybe recommended before the surgery.

If you have large pendulous breasts, a breast reduction may be the better procedure of choice. You can still achieve a lift at the same time as the breast reduction surgery.

Your safety is paramount. All breast lift procedures are performed by Dr. Frank Isik in Seattle Washington, who is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with over a decade of experience accompanied by an anesthesiologist or CRNA in a AAAASF certified operating room to assure your safety.
